DR10 Insurance

A DR10 is the most common conviction code handed out to drink drivers in the UK. The DR10 code covers the majority of drink driving cases as the description of the offense is very broad – “driving or attempting to drive with alcohol level above limit”.

In summary the DR10 conviction code can apply to any situation where a person has been found driving or trying to drive a motor vehicle whilst their blood alcohol level is higher than the legal limit of 80mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood (or 50mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood in Scotland).

The DR10 conviction carries severe consequences such as a mandatory minimum driving ban of 12 months, a fine of up to £5,000 and possibly a prison sentence of up to 6 months.

How A DR10 Conviction Can Affect Car Insurance

There is no doubt that drink driving offences are some of the most serious motoring crimes that are committed. It is no surprise then, that having your license endorsed with a DR10 conviction will affect your ability to find cheap car insurance because the majority of providers will hike up their premiums when you apply.

Some studies have shown that with certain car insurance companies, DR10 insurance can cost more than double the price of a policy for somebody with no convictions.
